Learning Together: Lightroom Mentoring in Action

One of the quiet strengths of our club is mentorship.

Not the formal, checkbox kind. The real kind. The generous kind. The kind where someone who knows their craft shows up consistently and shares it.

That’s exactly what Mentor Wayne Schnurr has been doing.

Informal. Practical. High-Value.

Wayne hosts informal Lightroom mentoring sessions via Webex, typically on a Wednesday at 10:00am.

Attendance typically ranges from 6 to 15 members, with a core group of about six regulars who attend consistently. That consistency matters. Skill builds over time — and the members who keep showing up are seeing it.

These sessions are not formally posted events. They’re responsive, conversational, and driven by real editing questions from members.

If you want to attend, confirm the schedule, or add questions to the agenda, you’ll need to join the WhatsApp group. That’s also where Wayne and other mentors & members post helpful links, videos, and Lightroom tips between sessions. Ad hoc outings with the Daytime Shooters are also discussed in the WhatsApp group. You'll need to be a club member and confirm with the WhatsApp administrators.

What Gets Covered?

Topics go well beyond basic sliders.

For example, a recent session explored advanced masking techniques — including how to intersect masks, refine edges, manage reflections, and make highly targeted adjustments for colour and brightness. It wasn’t just “which button to press,” but why and when to use specific tools for stronger results.

These are the kinds of practical, real-world editing skills that elevate your images from acceptable to intentional.

What Participants Are Saying

Here’s what members shared after a recent session:

“Thank you Wayne! I am looking forward to put in practice what I learned today.”
“Great session Wayne. Intersecting is tricky and I have a much better understanding of it. Thank you 😊”
“@Wayne Schnurr thanks for a great session. Enjoyed some new tricks for intersecting of masks etc. I do a ton of linear for concerts and background stuff. But for some prints will be awesome for details. Thanks”

That’s mentorship in action — clarity replacing confusion, and confidence replacing hesitation.

Why Mentors Matter

Clubs don’t become stronger because of equipment. They become stronger because experienced members choose to invest in others.

Mentorship accelerates learning. It reduces frustration. It builds real community. Wayne’s willingness to show up week after week is exactly the kind of leadership that makes a club thrive.

If you’ve been thinking about improving your editing skills, this is your nudge.

Join the WhatsApp group. Show up on Wednesday at 10:00 am. Bring a question.

That’s how progress happens.
